Who watched the royal wedding this week? I did, and was very impressed with the beautiful young couple. Seeing Queen Elizabeth brought back memories of watching early television and seeing her crowned queen of England following the death of her father, George VI. I was amazed by television in the first place, but seeing this woman with the heavy bejeweled crown resting on her young head gave me the sense of huge responsibility now part of her life, perhaps forever. She said she would serve until the end of her days -- and I believe she's working on that!
In later years as I remembered watching that event, I understood the powerful impact television has had on all our lives. We grew up in a time that is unique to only our generation -- following a major world war, the incredible growth and building of our country, and the burst of television that brought the world closer to us all, provided jobs and selling through commercials, and entertained us as no other invention ever had. Our experiences are different than anyone else's, within the shared events as well as outside of them. While aging faster than a speeding bullet which does not overjoy me to say the least, I'm glad I grew up in the time I did! What about you?
